At WAT Kids, we use martial arts to promote positive character and developmental skills in our students. Learning Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) at a very young age is customary in this ancient art and WAT Kids exercise their growing bodies and inquisitive minds. Each WAT Kids 12-week sessions are part of the exclusive WAT Armband program that includes on-going instructor feedback, progress check-ins and official testing for successful completion and advancement in Muay Thai expertise.
After a shared group warm up, we then divide our students into smaller sub groups because it is important for them to learn alongside those within their skill set and age group. Grouping this way allows us to help them focus on the different aspects of Muay Thai at the right time in their learning career so that as they continue to grow, their knowledge of the fundamentals grow with them.
The youngest of our students (aged 3-4), will practice hand-eye coordination, agility, balance and focus using age-appropriate techniques as well as through the use of repetition, details, rhythms and rules taught by our professionally-trained instructors.
Students aged 5-7, will start learning the fundamental tools that help them develop a finer understanding of the art of Muay Thai. In this group they will be focusing on memory and listening skills. Instructors take a more detailed approach to fine-tuning various techniques. Using new drills and creative approaches, kids in this group develop the most necessary building blocks of Muay Thai.
Students aged 8 and 9 will be taught sportsmanship(the good kind, of course!) and teamwork. They'll be introduced to more advanced drills and exercises where they can learn and build explosive power and precision while integrating pieces of the Thai culture into their practice. Kids in this age group will also be taught the significance of the Wai Kru - a dance that Muay Thai fighters perform before their competitions.
For our older students ages 10 through 13, our instructors combine advanced physical techniques as well as character building skills that are vital for pre-teens today. The training in this group builds on their previous training on a more progressive level, resulting in our students exuding the perfect example of inner and outer peace.
